Attractions for Younger Kids in Florida

Kids grow up so fast these days. It’s an adage older than everyone who says it. Yet, it remains true to this day. Kids are ever growing, every changing. Most parents remember when they were changing diapers or watching the little ones play space man or even roar and stomp around like dinosaurs. In a blink of an eye it’s good bye cowboy hat and hello Xbox. Then its cars, friends and eventually out the door. But there’s a time when younger kids want to let their imagination run wild. There are parks, experiences and rides specifically for this particular age bracket. This blog will cover some of Florida’s best attractions for the little ones.

First, there’s the Museum of Science and Industry in St. Petersburg. They even have a section chiefly for those who are 12 and under. It’s appropriately named Kids in Charge! It’s divided into two sections, Slippery Science and Mission: Moon base. Slippery Science is a hockey based array of different scientific experience. Kids can see what effect different hockey shots have on a fully padded hockey player. They can also learn about friction as they play on air hockey tables that have pucks of various colors and sizes! They can even see themselves on the Jumbo-tron in a simulated hockey area! Or they can play the role of goalie under fire as they try and stop a lightning fast puck from going into the net. That’s all just one half of the Kids in Charge! Experience in Mission: Moon base, children can go through an astronaut training course that includes a moonwalk, full obstacle course, EVAC slide and more. All of this depends on how tall the child is so be sure and check out the MOSI website for proper height qualifications!

Another great spot for children is Dinosaur World. Located in Plant City Florida, Dinosaur offers hours of fun for little ones who love the mythic thunder lizards. While people of all ages are welcome, there’s nothing quite like seeing these built to size models from the eyes of a child. They also offer archaeological fossil digs where kids can take home up to three real souvenirs they find while on the dig. Whether there for a birthday party or on a field trip with their friends or even just an outing with the family, your child is sure to enjoy the roaring fun of Dinosaur World!

Lastly, the obvious choice for a child in Orlando is the Wonderful World of Disney. From character meet and greets to Cars Land to the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique, your child will have their head on a swivel there’s so much for them to do. They are whom Walt envisioned his magical land for and he has yet to disappoint. Be they a little prince or Princess Disney is definitely something every child should experience!

There is tons more for children to enjoy in the Sunshine State. Petting live alligators in GatorLand, Petting Shamu’s tongue at Seaworld or seeing the amazing animals in Busch Gardens, Tampa. There’s so much to explore in Florida!

Staying Healthy While Traveling

Traveling is always an adventure. Be it by plane, train or automobile, there's just something freeing about seeing the world or even just exploring the country you live in. You'll be eating food from another city, seeing its sites and interacting with all kinds of people. However, these experiences and interactions do come with a price. You have to be mindful of staying healthy while you're traveling. This isn't your corner burger shop or local bar. These will possibly brand new places and other people's favorite local spot. This article will cover how to stay healthy and therefore happy as you travel.

The first step on the road to healthy travel is food. Always make sure you know about the places you eat. A place may have the appearance of somewhere you want to pop in to but it's always good to have a little background. Thankfully, we have the internet, social media or just the people working at your hotel. Obviously it goes without saying that if you are staying with friends, get their recommendations. But you can always use Apps like Urban Spoon or stop by Yelp and see what other travelers or locals are saying about a certain restaurant. Most often you'll be just fine but a little extra research, or just asking someone for their recommendation can mean the difference in C level quality and a level.

Another travel tip is making sure and washes your hands. This seems a little on the nose but, you'd be surprised how little people pay attention when rushing through an airport or taking a subway. You'll be in contact with surfaces of all kinds that have been touched daily. If you get out of a cab on the way to a nice New York pizza spot, remember that was public transportation you just took. Most sicknesses are spread via touch and a thorough hand washing will ensure you stay the picture of health. You can also carry around a small bottle of hand sanitizer just in case!

Sometimes when we get to a new place, we want to squeeze in all the vacation and fun we can. It's important to get a good night's sleep, no matter where you are. Sleep refreshes the body and resets the mind. You'll be able to make better decisions and enjoy your trip more if you're rested up and ready for the day!

One of the best ways to stay healthy is to work out. Most places you stay will have exercise equipment of some variety. If you do normally work out, don't let this vacation interrupt your routine. Take a dip in the pool, use the equipment they have on site or simply go for a nice long walk. You'll get the blood circulating and will feel better after you're done. You can also ask the hotel if there is anywhere within walking distance you can see.

The bottom line to staying healthy while traveling is to make good decisions and be aware of your surroundings. The last thing you want to do is spend any time feeling sick when you could be out enjoying yourself. It'll also help that you bring home only memories and not germs!

Central Florida Bucket List

Central Florida is often viewed as the tourism epicenter of the Sunshine State and for very good reason. It offers several of the main reasons people visit. Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort and Sea world Orlando are all within miles of each other. If a seasoned traveler played their cards right, a week-long vacation could result in sampling all these places. They fuel memories and keep people returning again and again. If you were to visit Central Florida, these are places you definitely want to see and this article will go over each of these destinations.

First, the main attraction: The Mouse House. What started as a great idea in California became a full-fledged realized vision in Orlando. The Walt Disney World Resort houses 4 world class theme parks, two water parks, as well as several hotels and other attractions. Disney is so big; it literally is classified as its own city. This means there is so much to do! For starters there's the Magic Kingdom; the crown jewel of the Disney Empire. Divided into six lands full of attractions and shows, Magic Kingdom is a must experience. There are so many must rides, its best just to do the entire park meaning Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion and many more. Next we have Epcot Center. There are not as many must rides here, with the popular ones being Mission: Space, Soarin', and Test Track. You'll also want to stop into the Innovations exhibits and if you have little ones, you'll want to take them to the Living Seas staring everyone's favorite found fish, Nemo. Disney Hollywood Studios, much like Epcot, has some very popular rides like Star Tours, The Great Movie Ride and Muppet Vision 3-D. They also have the exciting Stuntacular, an edge of you seat show experience. Lastly, we have Animal Kingdom. What differentiate Animal Kingdom from the other parks are the featured furry friends. There are various rides that feature animals that if you enjoy close encounters or just observing them, go out of your way to see the Safaris and Habitat rides they have. You'll want to ride Everest and Dinosaur as well. As for the Disney water parks, either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon are can't miss prospects with wet and wild fun to be had at both.

Next, we move along to Universal Studios. Unlike its more expansive counterpart, Universal is made up of a handful of hotels and two sister parks. In Universal Orlando, they have more simulation rides and shows. Despicable Me Mayhem, The Simpsons and Men in Black are all simulation. They also have the indoor roller coaster Revenge of the Mummy based on the popular move franchise. Conversely, Islands of Adventure contain more thrill rides such as The Hulk and Dragon Challenge. They also boast cutting edge rides like Spider-Man and Harry Potter. Of the two, Islands is more popular and does provide more thrills than Universal. However, it's all which you prefer.

The final stop on our Central Florida must see/do tour is Sea World. Sea World is much like Animal Kingdom only with more thrills and the focus is solely on aquatic animals. They have all sorts of shows and encounters with various sea life. They also have some of the best rides in the state of Florida like Manta and Kraken, two rides that have to be ridden to be believed.

To break all of this down in the form of a week, we would recommend 4 days at Disney World, 1-2 days at Universal and one day at Sea World with a flex day thrown in for whatever peaks your interest. This article obviously only scratches the surface on what Central Florida has to offer but these are the big three must do in the area.

Secret World of Disney

There are lots of wonderful rides, shows and sights in Disney theme parks. The iconic rides like Big Thunder Mountain, Spaceship Earth and the Great Movie Ride. There are also newer attractions like Soarin, Everest and Toy Story Mania. The great shows have been delighting guests for years. The thrills of the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, the laughs of the Musical Finding, Nemo and the sheer wonder of Cirque’s La Nouba. You can find all these entertaining activities and several others in any WDW brochure; there is plenty of information available. But, like many places, Disney has secrets built into its parks. We’ll be covering something of them in this article.

For starters, ever wonder why you never see different cast members in different lands? That’s because in the Magic Kingdom there is a system of underground tunnels all throughout the park. Cast members will show up in their own clothes, walk to their corresponding area via the tunnels and then dress out. Another secret takes places just outside the bounds of the park. Everything behind the scenes that can be seen in the park is painted green. Walls, fences, it all fades into the background as it is all green. Speaking of what happens outside the park, there’s something interesting about some of the night watch staff.

Dating back to Disneyland there are cats that roam the park at nights to keep down the mice inhabitants. They have several feeders around the park as well as cat wranglers to make sure the cats are back in their care station before the park opens. One strange piece of trivia is that Disney World qualifies as its own city. When WDW was opening, the land Walt wanted stretched over two counties. This meant that he had to contend with two local offices. So, Mr. Disney asked to have Walt Disney World count as its own city. Since the governments knew that the new, ground breaking theme park would bring tons of money and tourism to the area, they approved this.

It’s not just behind the scenes secrets. Something very fun to try is in the Hollywood Studios. When you are walking around the park, you’ll see various characters but there are some in particular you should be on the lookout for. If you happen to see, Woody, Buzz, Jesse and other characters from the Toy Story movie. If you shout “Andy’s Coming!” they will freeze and stop what they are doing. They will stay this way for a bit and pose for photos. Another secret in Hollywood Studios concerns the Tower of Terror. It’s believed to be a free-fall when in fact the ride is pulled down faster than gravity. Or maybe you are one for a scavenger hunt? There are hundreds if not thousands of “hidden Mickeys” throughout the parks in all sorts of rides, walls, signs etc. This over the years has become a very popular trend and there are even books published on it now.

Lastly we come to an urban legend of sorts about the Magic Kingdom. Some say there are actual ashes spread along the track in the Haunted Mansion. The story goes that a family went through the ride and carefully spread the ashes of a boy who loved the Haunted Mansion. This has obviously been denied by the Disney Company but the legend persists to his very day!
